Roger's professional amnesia really is habitual:
"He was even in the original Morse, although he has an attack of professional amnesia, which I suspect is habitual, and says he doesn’t remember who he played. “I think I was a lecturer at Oxford University with a nice wife,” he says, very slowly, as if waiting for me to contradict him and say, no, Roger, you played the adopted teenager who worked in the bicycle shop. “I can’t remember whether she got killed or I got killed. Maybe we both got killed. I didn’t do it, though."
